PageFlakes is a web-based tool that puts capabilities of the Read/Write web and Web 2.0 to work, allowing creation of web-based resources without need for dedicated server space or knowledge of web HTML.

PageFlake uses applets known as Flakes to help you build web pages.  Creating a page is as simple as dragging and dropping Flakes onto a PageFlakes page.

To see what a PageFlakes page looks like, take a look at this example. Imagine your class is reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar. In addition to reading the story what content areas might you examine and discuss in class? In this example Flakes are set up to provide a set of bookmarks directly related to the story and to the author. Another set of bookmarks links students to information about desert biomes and desert wildlife. A link to an interactive map of Texas (the setting in which the story takes place) is provided. We can even compare our local weather to that of the Chihauan Desert (or at least the closest available zip code!). This example was put together in about 10 minutes. It's very basic and simple but could be made much more elaborate depending on available time and your needs. Imagine how you could put this resource to use in your own teaching!
